Northline runs nine routes across two counties, and its signs had been set in four typefaces by three contractors. The brief asked for one mark and one signage program that could be read from a bus pulling in.
What we did. A mark of a chevron over a bar in signal orange, tested at forty meters before it was approved at one. A stop-sign family, a timetable format that folds to the pass card's size, and a vehicle livery drawn on the same grid as the stop signs so the two read as one system when the bus arrives.
What it changed. Every stop on all nine routes was re-signed in a single winter by the authority's own crews from the drawings. Rider complaints about missed stops fell to a fifth of the previous year's.
